You are to be commended for a fine job. To my delight I found we have a common interest in Flood, Smith, Collier and Piersey surnames. I would like to exchange data with you from time to ti e if that is all right with you? I am presently working on Draper and Garton data. I have just received a transcript of a letter written by Clement Draper to Queen Elizabeth I in 1592 and am presently trying to determine its true meaning and intent. I would like to ask a question concerning your data. You have said that Elizabeth Draper Piersey came to Virginia with her daughters in 1623 aboard the Southampton. It has for a time been my belief that she died before her daughters came to America, per aps even before Abraham Piersey first came here. I revisited a site containing passenger lists and searched the roster for the voyage of the Southampton in 1623 and found the two daughters but no reference to their mother. I am hoping that you will shar with me your source that Elizabeth did come to Virginia in 1623 . I have some excerpts from Elizabeth Garton Draper's will. Hope to hear from you Don Don Timmerberg 333 Northmoor Drive Ballwin, MO, 63011-2511, USA dtimberg@inlink.com |

Some researchers believe we are related to William Glover and Mary Norwood. My ggggrandfather is John William Glover and I am trying to find his father. I know there was a Ric ard Glover who came to Virginia via the ship Assurance from England in 1633. It seems he had 6 sons, one also being Richard and I think that is where my line goes to. But there also was a son William born 1653 who married Mary Burton who are the parents f William born 1678 who married Mary Norwood. I am not absolutely sure of any of this. But it appears we are kin somewhere along the way. Anything I can find out will be a help. Thanks for your site. They are still family. Cousin Lynda |

Question: what is your source for the information you have about Elizabeth S. Norwood, wife of Levi Thompson? You refer to her as "Aunt Bet" and list her middle name as Sarah. My father grew up living ear her (relatively - it was a "good walk" - and calling her Grandma Susan and was always under the impression that her middle name was Susan. Why would she have been called Susan if her name was Sarah? Where (what document) lists her name as Sarah? It s not the family Bible, and I haven't found her listed on any deeds. I just really need a verifiable source. Incidently, my great grandfather was Rev. James Monroe Adolphus Parker (source: family Bible). Pat |

I'm not related to Norwoods, but I continue to seek information on Williamson Norwood who died ca 1848 Abbeville Co, SC. In his will inventory many enslaved people were listed in fa ily groups - one group was Isaac, Leah, Isaac, Wade and Tom. Not much to go on as far as evidence. The first documentation I have of my FOOTE family is 1868 after freedom. The 1870 census lists the same given names as the will in one household under Fo te. Based on 95 year old Gram's memories of Calhoun Falls, it sounds like the Norwood place is now the Lattimore / Pettigrew home on Route 81 in Abbeville Co, SC. I probably will be forever looking for records of Williamson's son, James A. Norwood, who eld 172 enslaved people in 1860, and his son-in-law, Robert E. Belcher's (d. ca 1850) records to try and fill in the gap. Again, your site is wonderful and if anyone comes across and obscure antebellum records for these individuals, please keep me in min ! Thanks! Sonia |

J. Marshall Neathery - 02/22/00 05:33:01 My Email:jmneathery1969@mindspring.com | Comments: I am a Norwood descendant on my mother's side of the house. She was a Norwood. My grandparents were James Andrew Norwood (1876 - 1954) and Mary Proctor Norwood (1892 - 1968). My great grandmother Norwood was Lucy Ann Frances Rebecca Norwood (1844 - 192 ). She was born in Granville County, North Carolina and died in adjoining Vance County (N.C.), which was a part of old Granville. Lucy's parents were Benjamin Norwood (1804 - 1876) and Rebecca Norwood, of Granville County. Rebecca's maiden name may hav been 'Owen'. Great grandmother Lucy Norwood had three brothers: Jesse, Bennett, and James Norwood. My grandfather, Andrew Norwood (above), was born out-of-wedlock to his mother Lucy. Lucy never married. It may be that my 1gr- 2gr- 3gr- grandfather wa named John Norwood. A certain John Norwood, a poor man, lived in Granville County, N. C., Island Creek District, in the late 1790s till about 1835 when he died there. He had one son, as the census records of the early 1800s show, and several girls. Th son's age corresponds to my 1gr- 2gr- grandfather Benjamin Norwood's(above). This may be my family!? But.....I can go back no further than this! I am not sure that my Norwoods are related to Nathaniel Norwood and family who moved from Northampton Coun y, N. C. to Granville County in the early to mid-1700s. Nathaniel had a son named Benjamin Norwood, later known as Capt. Benjamin Norwood, who also had a son named Benjamin Norwood, Jr. The ironic thing is that Capt. Benjamin's son, Benjamin, and my 1gr 2gr- grandpa Benjamin's birth year was probably the same....1804. There may, indeed, be a connection with the Nathaniel Norwood family of Northampton and Granville Counties.....but in countless years of searching in books, census, and other records...wi h various people, and on the Web.......NO ONE nor ANYTHING has revealed this to me. I am totally at a loss as to the source of my Norwood heritage!!! Being poor people, with no wills, paying no taxes, etc., has not helped in my search, of course. Any help or suggestions would be welcomed! Thanks! J. Marshall Neathey February 22, 2000 |

Recently found the name of wife of our ancestor Giles McBride b: Abt 1812 TN. It is Mary Ann Norwood. That is all we know about her except that she had a brother Fletcher Norwood. We do not even know where she was born as we cannot find Giles McBride and Mary Ann on the 1850 census anywhere, so far. Giles and his father Thomas McBride were on the agricultural census of Lauderdale Co, AL in 1850 so presumably they moved there that year and were not counted on the regular censu . Mary Ann died about 1854 shortly after birth of her daughter Frances McBride. Other known children were Phebe, Nancy Jane, and Ann. There several more children, but their names are unknown to me. Just starting to look for Mary Ann Norwood and would appr ciate any clues. |

Georgie B. Cooper - 03/04/99 04:52:16 My Email:georgie@laedu.lalc.k12.ca.us Your favorite genealogy link: Don't have one. | Comments: I believe the list of Cuthbert Smith's children is incorrect. I have a good copy of Cuthbert's 1780 will, Brunswick County, VA, and here is a list of those to whom he bequeathed real and personal property: son Charles; son Stephen; son John; son James; son Fredrick; wife Elizabeth; son Benjamin; dau. Sally; dau. Lucy; dau. Mary; dau. Susanna; dau. Anne; dau. Elizabeth; dau. Frances. I have been very frustrated in trying to prove that my ancestor, Capt. John Smith or John Smith, Sr. (will probated in 1828, Sussex County, VA) is, in fact, this son John of Cuthbert Smith. My John lived most of his adult life in Dinwiddie County, V , which is one of the "burned counties." My John Named one of his daughters Elizabeth Chamberlain, which would suggest that Elizabeth Chamberlain Smith, Cuthbert's wife, may have been his mother. I can't prove this though.
