My great great grandmother was Mary Learwood. She married John Jowell in Laurens Co, SC. John Jowell b 1768 in Va. or SC d. 1851 in Rusk Co., Tex. Mary died about the same time. Their children Richard Ratliff b 1808 SC., Polly Ann, Tabitha Paralee b 1814 Bedford Co.,Tn., John and Caroline b. 1819. There could be more.

Tabitha is my great grandmonther. She married James Abercrombie Jowell. They had 11 children. 7 were born in Marion Co., Ala. They moved to Rusk Co., Tex., then to Palo Pinto, Texas.

I have a list of deeds on the Jowell family of Laurens Co., SC. In it is Edmond Learwood to John Jowell Apr. 13, 1815. I thought this may have been the father or brother of Mary Learwood my great great grandmother.

I don't have anything farther back on her family. I do have records on their children and grandchildren and I know some of them.

I would be very grateful for any records or information you may have on this family and would be glad to share what I have. I have been told that the Learwood name had been changed to Wood. I have tried to trace Ratliff Jowell and wife Chrystie Abercrombie of Laurens, parents of John Jowell. No luck so far. Gabriel Jowell, brother of John, married Rebecca Abercrombie, dau of James Abercrombie of Laurens S.C.

Two nephews of Mary Learwood, Charles and Reuben, came to Texas about 1850. ....

Sincerely,
Jason Jowell

Note from Marlene - I don't know where the query came from - this information was passed on to me a number of years ago by another Jowell researcher -
