Murdock Family

John Murdock, will dated 6 Aug 1836, probated Oct 1836, (Lincoln Co TN Wills 1A-128), md Isabella Jowell (Joel), dau of Richard Ratcliff Jowell (ca 1734-1787) and Chrystie Abercrombie (b 21 Nov 1746, d 1803).  Isabella Murdock was a sister of Tabitha Jowell, who md Edmond Franklin Larwood.  John Murdock's will left the tract of land "whereon I now live" to his son John Murdock, with the stipulation that Isabella Murdock would have maintenance therefrom during her life.  The will mentions his daughters, Nancy Murdock, Eliza Murdock and Rachel Murdock to have an equal portion of the proceeds of the farm as long as they stayed single or remained on the farm.  The will names John's mother, Mollie Murdock,  and states:  "If my mother dies while I am living, I will be her sole heir of her estate which consists principally of money lent on interest to Col. Jos. Caruthers and Majr. Wm. Caruthers, and I bequeath that money to son John Murdock and daughters Nancy, Eliza and Rachel who have faithfully waited on and attended to my said mother, Molly Murdock, during her old and infirm state to be equally divided among them at her death."  His executor was William B. Burge with witnesses Samuel Murdock and Ezekiel Sanders.  The will does not mention Samuel Murdock, but the 1850 census shows Isabella Murdock in Samuel's household in Lincoln Co., and most of the land John Murdock, Sr. left to John Murdock, Jr., was later purchased by Samuel Murdock.  And Samuel Murdock was executor of John Murdock's will (1846)
