NORWOOD OBITUARIES

Edmond Thomas Norwood  "Aged Man Passes on to Reward.  Death came to E. T. Norwood of Shannon Creek in the edge of Giles County on February 16th.  He was 91 years, 3 months and 26 days old, having been born October 21, 1840.  He had been a member of the Methodist Church from early childhood, and a funeral service was held by Dr. Doyle of Minor Hill and the burial was  at Oak Grove in Giles County, T. A. Stout, undertaker.

Mr. Norwood was married to Miss Eliza Larwood about 70 years ago, she having preceded him to the grave several years ago, to this union was born 13 children, eight of whom are still living.  The are:  Mrs. Josie Henderson, with whom he lived, Mrs. Tennie Roper, Mrs. Lizzie Keeton, E. F. Norwood, Mrs. Sam Bolin, Mrs. John Tipper, J. T. Norwood and C. A. Norwood.  Mrs. Henderson, Mrs. Roper and C. A. Norwood live in Giles County; Mrs. Keeton and E. F. Norwood live in Lawrence County; Mrs. Bolin and Mrs. Tipper in Florida; and J. T. Norwood lives in Cincinnati.

Mr. Norwood was a Confederate soldier and served in the same company that the father of the editor and publisher of  The News did.  He taught school for many years and farmed practically all his life.  He was well informed and delighted in conversing with his friends, and he did not have enemies.  He lived to a ripe old age but we are always sorry to hear of the passing of anyone and especially an old friend like Mr. Norwood was to us.  Just a short time ago, his brother, James Norwood, died suddenly in Marshall County.  Besides the other members of his family, he leaves an aged sister, Mrs. Levi Thompson, who is 93 years of age."
