Friday, October 2, 1874: "Died, at his residence, near Landersville, on the 22nd ult., of Congestion of the Brain, Mr. J. N. Sandlin, a useful and worthy citizen."
Friday, October 9, 1874: "Tribute of Respect - At a called meeting of the Landersville Grange, No. 478, Patrons of Husbandry, the undersigned were appointed to draft suitable resolutions in relation to the death of Brother J. N. Sandlin."
Friday, October 16, 1874: "Died on _____ near Landersville, Alabama, of congestive fever, after a short illness, Mr. J. N. Sandlin, in the 45th year of his age. Mr. Sandlin was reared up in Lawrence County. His little children (from 5 to 8 years of age) stood at the brink of the grave with broken hearts, crying, "Papa's gone - Papa's gone!" which seemed to add poignancy to the grief of the broken hearted wife."
Thursday, Dec. 7, 1882: "An aged mother has fallen in Israel - a land mark has been wiped out by the angel of death. On the 19th of November, 1882, Mrs. Peninah Norwood, who was in her 86th year, shook off this mortal dust and passed up into the courts of glory. It is said that she had 9 married children and a large number of grandchildren and many great-grandchildren."
Thursday, July 5, 1883: "Jas. Sandlin, a youth 14 years old, was found dead on the public road, near Landersville, last Sunday evening. He had been unwell for some time but was well enough to attend preaching in the morning, and it is supposed that he died with heart disease on his return home. We deeply sympathize with his widowed mother and other distressed relatives."
Thursday, Feb 5, 1885: "Mr. Nicholson Sandlin, nearly 82 years old, died near Danville on the 21st of January."
Thursday, May 27, 1886: Mr. J. W. Sandlin, an old and honorable citizen of Landersville, died in that place on Thursday morning last."
Thursday, June 10, 1886: "Again,'earth is impoverished and Heaven
is enriched' in the death of our beloved Brother J. W. Sandlin, who departed
this life May the 25th, 1886. Brother Sandlin was born in Morgan
County, March 10th, 1823, was married to Martha J. Davis, July 16th, 1846,
who still survives him. Our brother was permitted to see his 7 children,
all members of the Church of Christ, married and settled in life.
Only one having preceded him to the home of the blest."
