Scriptures That Point To Jesus As The Messiah

There are 60 major prophecies in the Old Testament that were fulfilled in Christ alone, prophecies with at least a 250 year gap between being written and their fulfillment in the person of Christ. In fact, the chances of 8 major prophecies being fulfilled in one man--place of birth, time of birth, manner of birth, betrayel, manner of death, people's reactions, piercing and burial--are 10 to the 17th power, or 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000. If you consider 48 of the prophecies, the chance that any one man fulfilled all 48 increases to be 10 to the 157th power. Now that should give you confidence in the Word of God!

BORN OF THE SEED OF A WOMAN:

Prophecy: Gen.3:15--"And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed; He will bruise you on the head, and you shall bruise him on the heel."
Fulfillment: Gal. 4:4--"But when the fulness of time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law."

BORN OF A VIRGIN:

Prophecy: Isaiah 7:14--"Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she shall call His name Immanuael."
Fulfillment: Matt. 1:18,24,25--"...she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph...kept her a virgin until she have birth to a Son; and he called His name Jesus."

SON OF GOD:

Prophecy: Psalms 2:7--"I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord: He said to Me, 'Thou are My Son, Today I have begotten Thee.'"
Fulfillment: Matt. 3:17--"...and behold, a voice out of the heavens, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.'"

SEED OF ABRAHAM:

Prophecy: Gen. 22:18--"And in your descendants all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice."
Fulfillment: Matt. 1:1--"The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham."
Gal. 3:16:--"Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, 'and to seeds,' as referring to many, but rather to one, 'and to your seed,' that is, Christ."

TRIBE OF JUDAH

Prophecy: Gen. 49:10--"The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes, And to him shall be the obedience of the peoples."
Fulfillment: Luke 3:23,33--"Jesus,...the son of Judah,..."

FAMILY LINE OF JESSE

Prophecy: Isaiah 11:1--"Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit."
Fulfillment: Luke 3:23,32--"Jesus,...the son of Jesse,..."

HOUSE OF DAVID

Prophecy: Jeremiah23:5--"'Behold, the days are coming,' declares the Lord, 'When I shall raise up for David a righteous Branch; And He will reign as king and act wisely and do justice and righteousness in the land.'"
Fulfillment: Luke 3:23,31--"Jesus,...the son of David,..."

BORN AT BETHLEHEM

Prophecy: Micah 5:2"But as for you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you One will go forth fo Me to be ruler in Israel. His goings forth are from long ago, from the days of eternity.
Fulfillment: Matt. 2:1--"...Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea..."

HEROD KILLS CHILDREN

Prophecy: Jer. 31:15--"Thus says the Lord, A voice is heard in Ramah, Lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; She refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more."
Fulfullment: Matt. 2:16--"Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its environs, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the magi."

PRECEDED BY A MESSENGER

Prophecy: Isaiah 40:3--"A voice is calling, 'Clear the way for the LORD in the wilderness; Make smooth in the desert a highway for our God.'"
Fulfillment: Matt. 3:1,2--"...John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, 'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.'"

MINISTRY TO BEGIN IN GALILEE

Prophecy: Isaiah 9:1--"But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphthali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan,Galilee of the Gentiles."
Fulfillment: Matt. 4:12,13,17--"Now when He heard that John had been taken into custody, He withdrew into Galilee; and leaving Nazareth, He came and settled in Capernaum, which is by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. From that time Jesus began to preach and say, 'Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.'"

RESURRECTION

Prophecy: Psalms 16:10--"For Thou wilt not abandon my soul to Sheol; neither wilt Thou allow Thy Holy one to see the pit."
Fulfillment: Acts 2:31--"...He was neither abondoned to Hades, nor did His flesh suffer decay."

BETRAYED BY A FRIEND

Prophecy: Zechariah 11:12--"And I said to them, 'If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but it not, never mind!' So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages."
Fulfillment: Matt. 26:15--"...'What are you willing to give me to deliver Him up to you?' And they weighed out to him thirty pieces of silver."

FORSAKEN BY HIS DISCIPLES

Prophecy: Zechariah 13:7--"...Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered..."
Fulfillment: Mark 14:50--"And they left Him and fled."

ACCUSED BY FALSE WITNESSES

Prophecy: Psalm 35:11--"Malicious witnesses rise up; They ask me of things that I do not know."
Fulfillment: Matt. 26:59-61--"Now the chief priests and the whole Council kept trying to obtain false testimony against Jesus, in order that they might put Him to death; and they did not find it, even though many false witnesses came forward.

SMITTEN AND SPIT UPON

Prophecy: Isaiah 50:6--"I gave My back to those who strike Me, and My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting."
Fulfillment: Matt. 26:67--"Then they spat in His face and beat Him with their fists, and others slapped Him."

MOCKED

Prophecy: Psalm 22:7,8--"All who see me sneer at me; They separate with the lip, they wag the head, saying, 'Commit thyself to the Lord; let Him deliver him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.'"
Fulfillment: Matt. 27:31--"And after they had mocked Him, they took His robe off and put His garments on Him, and led Him away to crucify Him."

HANDS & FEET PIERCED

Prophecy: Psalm 22:16--"They pierced my hands and my feet."
Fulfillment: Luke 23:33--"And when they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him...."

CRUCIFIED WITH THIEVES

Prophecy: Isaiah 53:12--"...Because He poured our Himself to death, And was numbered with the transgressors,..."
Fulfillment: Matt. 27:38--"At that time two robbers were crucified with Him, one on the right and one on the left."

HATED WITHOUT A CAUSE

Prophecy: Psalm 69:4--"Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head...."
Fulfillment: John 15:25--:But they have done this in order that the word may be fulfilled that is written in their Law, 'They hated Me without a cause...."

GARMENTS PARTED AND LOTS CAST

Prophecy: Psalm 22:18--"They divided my garments among them, And for my clothing they cast lots."
Fulfillment: John 19:23,24--"The soldiers therefore, when they had crucified Jesus, took His outer garments and made four parts, a part to every soldier and also the tunic; now the tunic was seamless, woren in one piece. They said...,'Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, to decide whose it shall be....'"

TO SUFFER THIRST & BE OFFERED VINEGAR

Prophecy: Psalm 69:21--"...And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink."
Fulfillment: John 19:28--"After this, Jesus,...said, 'I am thirsty.'" Matt. 27:34--"They gave Him wine to drink mingled with gall; and after tasting it, He was unwilling to drink."

BONES NOT BROKEN

Prophecy: Psalm 34:20--"He keeps all his bones; Not one of them is broken."
Fulfillment: John 19:33--"...but coming to Jesus, when they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs."

HIS SIDE PIERCED

Prophecy: Zechariah 12:10--"...they will look on Me whom they have pierced...."
Fulfillment: John 19:34--"...but one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear,..."

BURIED IN A RICH MAN'S TOMB

Prophecy: Isaiah 53:9--"His grave was assigned to be with wicked men, Yet with a rich man in His death."
Fulfillment: Matt. 27:57-60--"...there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph,...and asked for the body of Jesus...And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb...."
