Irrigation Ditch in Clallam County

The Sequim-Dungeness Valley is lined with irrigation ditches. Due to the dry climate caused by the "rain shadow", Sequim averages only about 17" of rain a year, and irrigation is necessary to grow crops. Sequim hosts the Irrigation Festival, Washington's oldest continuing festival, which was begun in 1896, during the first and second weekends of May.
