Gardening
Has Finally Begun!
-
Jenny is so happy to report that the gardening season has begun in earnest.
The daffodils and grape hyacinths are blooming in the garden together,
just as beautifully as they are on this page. This is the first year we've
had that combination in the garden, and it is really fantastic! The hyacinths
and crocus are just about finished, the daffodils are going strong, and
the tulips are just coming into bud. So far, just poking up through the
soil we've seen the beginnings of hostas, bleeding hearts, Jacob's Ladder,
Beacon Silver, daylilies, sweet woodruff, moonbeam coreopsis, english hyacinths,
lady's mantle, bee balm, iris, lilies, lily of the nile, salvia, lavender,
purple coneflowers, lantana, and ferns. There are so many more out there,
it's hard to remember what is where, and what to expect. That's part of
the surprises of spring in the garden.
-
We've also been doing some renovations to our back yard, taking advantage
of the cool, crisp air and the low humidity. We've installed some gradual
steps down the slope of our back yard, and have installed a new shade garden
in one corner. The new garden will have lots of hosta, fern, bleeding heart,
and other shade perennials, as well as it's fair share of impatiens, caladiums,
and other shade annuals. We're going to have a bench to sit on, and a small
footpath taking you through the garden without trampling plants. It's going
to be very nice when it's finished. So far, of course, it's only been a
lot of hard work as we clear out tree roots and remove the sod which has
struggled under the tree for so long. Jenny has been taking pictures throughout
the project, and will have some on line as it gets nearer to completion.

Baseball
Season
-
Baseball season is now going strong, both in the Major
Leagues (Go Orioles!) and on
the little league front. David has signed up to be the head coach, or manager,
of Mike's little league team. Well, actually he signed up to be a regular
coach, but there were not enough managers for every team, so he agreed
to do that instead. Already he is feeling like he's gotten more than he
bargained for. The season is just in the practice stages now, but the games
will begin two nights per week starting late-April. For more info on the
team, you can visit Mike's
Team Website.

Field
Trip
-
Late in March, we travelled up to Boston to visit Uncle Rob and Aunt Ann.
While we were there, we spent a day in the city, visiting the Children's
Museum and walking the Freedom Trail a little bit. On another day we
went to Worcester to see the Ecotarium, a
science center and small zoo. We spent the rest of the trip shopping and
hanging out. We had a nice visit, as always. We're looking forward to seeing
them again in the summer when we all go to Walt Disney World together!

Upcoming
Visitors
-
We are looking forward to seeing Grandpa Jim and Grandma Donna later this
month, as they come from Oklahoma to visit us. They'll stop in for a day
on their way up to Boston, then a week later they'll come back through,
and spend a week with us. We have no definite plans for when they're here,
except they'll surely go to some little league games and practices, and
they'll probably spend some time just hanging out with Mike and Kim. Jenny
will be away on a business trip for part of their visit, so they'll be
helping David keep the house going. We're hoping for good weather for their
trip, both on their travel days and while they're here.
