Happy
Anniversary!
On August 2, David and Jenny celebrated their
12th wedding anniversary! And they're still as happy as the day they were
married. To celebrate, they spent a night away from home. On Saturday August
1, they left the kids with family friends and drove back to Longwood
Gardens. Remember that the family all went there in June - well, Jenny
and David decided to go back without the kids for a change! They spent
the aftenroon walking around the gardens, seeing all the sights that they
missed on the first trip. They had a wonderful dinner at the garden's Terrace
Restaurant. Then they went to an outdoor
production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Carousel". They had a wonderful
evening! The next morning, they slept in late, then drove back home to
pick up the kids. The kids had a great time too. They went to a couple
of different playgrounds in the area, went picking blackberries, and went
swimming. It turned out that everyone enjoyed the weekend in their own
special way.
Will
the Tooth Fairy Ever Come?
We are all anxiously awaiting the impending
loss of Mike's first two teeth. The lower front two teeth have been loose
since May, and now they're to the point that they're hanging only by a
few threads. But we simply cannot convince him to pull them! The new teeth
have broken through behind the old ones, and are pushing their way to the
front, moving the old ones out of the way. No matter what we say or do,
we just can't get Mike to sit still long enough to pull the old ones out!
We have decided to let it go until the night before school starts. If they're
not out by then, then they're coming out. We all hope that by then it won't
be an issue, because hopefully they'll be gone by then. There is one problem
though- his friends have told him the going rates for teeth which the tooth
fairy buys from kids - $5 per tooth! Yikes! We've tried to warn him that
maybe the tooth fairy won't leave $5, depending on her finances at the
time. Unfortunatley, Mike has seen three of his buddies get $5 per tooth
in the last two weeks. Oh well, that's the price of inflation.
School
Is Starting Again
On Monday August 25th, Mike will return to
school to be in 2nd grade. We will find out who his teacher is on the Friday
before that. He's very excited to be going back to school - he misses his
friends a lot. This year we can look forward to him reading even more,
especially continuing his love of chapter books. He'll also be learning
lots more math, including multiplication and division, fractions, graphing,
and some geometry. He is also excited because the PTA was able to raise
money to build a new playground for his school. The old equipment was rusting
and was on a cement pad. The new system will be brightly colored platforms,
bridges, monkey bars, slides and ladders, and will rest on softer base
materials. It should be installed by the time school starts.
Kim
Moves Up
Also starting on August 25th, Kim will be
in a new classroom at CDC. She'll say goodbye to her wonderful teacher,
Ms. Sylvia, and hello to another great teacher, Ms. Felicia. Some of Kim's
best friends will go to the new classroom with her, and they will be in
a larger group made up of all four-year-olds. Their new classroom has an
elevated loft where they can play house, or castle, or whatever their imagination
allows. We will be sad to leave Ms. Sylvia behind, but we know she is a
great teacher for three-year-olds, and the kids who are in her class this
fall will be in for a really wonderful time. We have seen Ms. Felicia around
the school over the last three years or so, and we know she has a fun time
with her class of kids, so we imagine that Kim's time in her room will
be just great!
