Harris Happenings

Here are some of the things that are going on around the Harris house these days....
June 1998

Boys Baseball Night / Girlie Night
On Wednesday June 3rd, David and Mike went to the Bowie Baysox baseball game.  They arrived early enough to see batting practice, and Mike got his first autographed baseball from Eugene Kingsale!  They met up with some of David's work buddies, and had a great time until the rain delay came at about 9:00.  Almost every time any of us go to a baseball game, there is rain!
On that same night, Jenny and Kim had Girlie Night.  They went to the mall first, to ride the carousel.  They had the whole thing to themselves!  Next they went to look at the animals in the pet store, had Chinese food for dinner, and stopped in the bookstore for some light reading.  Afterward, they went home for some fingernail/toenail painting, and some fun with the dollhouse.  They stayed up late, until Mike and David came home, and then it was time for bed.

Columbia Youth Baseball Association - Tee Ball
Each Saturday, Mike plays on the CYBA Royals Tee Ball team.  So far, he's had three games, a practice, and two rain-outs!  He's one of the oldest players on the team, and so he's helping teach the kindergarten kids to play.  He's had some really strong at-bats, and has done really well at his fielding too.  Next spring he'll be in coach-pitch, and will have mid-week practices.  Hopefully we'll soon have some on-line pictures of him playing  baseball.

Howard County Soccer Association
Also on Saturday, Mike plays soccer.  He's in the youngest age bracket, which means he's in the clinic instead of in a game-playing league.  He is learning all the skills needed for playing soccer.  He's chosen not to participate in soccer next fall.  He wants to practice baseball instead.

CDC Summer Camp
On Monday June 8th, Kim will begin the summer "camp" session at CDC.  She'll have Gymnastics on Mondays, Bike Day on Tuesdays, Water Day on Wednesdays, Special Events on Thursdays, and Water Day and Sno Cones on Fridays.  Sprinkled throughout the summer are field trips, where she'll go fun places like a farm and Discovery Zone.  Other days the Fun Bus will come to the school, and a magician and a reptile show are both scheduled!  Mike will attend CDC summer camp for school agers as soon as school is out on June 10th.  He'll be taking a few more field trips, and will also have Bike Days.

Strawberry Picking
We're planning a trip very soon to Larriland Farms, where we'll pick strawberries.  Later in the summer we'll be back for peaches and blueberries, and in the fall for apples, hayrides and maybe even our Christmas Tree!

Longwood Gardens
We're also planning a day trip to Longwood Gardens outside Philidelphia.  It's the premier botanical attraction in the Philly area, and should be chock full of roses and early perennials.  This is a combined Mother's Day and Birthday trip for Jenny.

Trip to Tulsa
Of course, we're looking forward to our vacation in Tulsa later this summer.  We'll be putting a field trip report here after we get back, so stay tuned.
