Mike's Poetry Collection

These are poems that Mike has learned in school.  He wrote a poetry journal as part of his language arts curriculum.  The poems included here are his favorites.

Hug o' War

- by Shel Silverstein
I will not play at tug o' war.
I'd rather play at hug o' war,
Where everyone hugs
Instead of tugs,
Where everyone giggles
And rolls on the rug,
Where everyone kisses,
And everyone grins,
And everyone cuddles,
And everyone wins.

Runny Nose

- by Kay Winters
It's just not that funny
When your nose is runny;
You feel all soggy,
Hoarse and froggy.
Your throat is scratching;
The germs are hatching.
You know it's catching -
KERCHOO!

Oh Mother, I Am Blue Today

- by Jack PrHusky
"Oh Mother, I am blue today,
I don't know why or how.
There's never been another child
as blue as I am now."
"I see you're blue," my mother said,
"and this is what I think -
if you would rather not be blue
don't bathe again in ink."

The Spider

- by Ethel Jacobson

The spider loves to entertain
Her neighbors and relations,
But woe to any bugs or flies
Who accept her invitations!
So have a care be wary of
This most accomplished spinner,
When she murmers,

"Be my guest!"
What she means is,
"Be my dinner!"
