Choatah is a 14 year old gelding and we've been together 3 years now. I grew up riding and by the age of 18 had lost interest so we sold all our horses. Thanks to my younger sister, Sharon I bought another horse.
I had looked at several but none of them struck me, that is untill I drove up in the driveway and saw this guy. He's got a funny personality. If he were human, he'd be the class clown. If you ride up beside him in the right position he'll try and nose through your saddle bags. Choatah loves to be point man and if riding with someone else who's horse is the same way can make a quick ride due to them competing. He loves to go out on trails and especially loves to run. He comes from a bloodline that is known for swiftness. His sire is "Roman Only" and grandsire is "Hayes Roman Cloud" who's bloodline goes back to "Sir Gallahad" and "Snow Cloud".
We go often to Land Between The Lakes which is our most favorite place to ride. They have trails from two to nineteen miles and you can make the ride as easy or as hard as you like. There is a Wrangler Campground that has primitive camping sites and camp sites with electricity, cabins that sleep from four to eight people, bathhouses, stalls and even a restaurant. Reservations are required on the cabins and camping sites, the stalls are first come, first serve, so if you plan going, take a rope to tie your horses off in case the stalls are full.
I do remember one time we rode up at Land Between The Lakes. There were just three of us, Sharon my sister, Paul my boyfriend and myself. It was on our second day of riding and before we left camp these 2 guys asked my boyfriend if they could ride along with us. Great!! Love meeting new horse people. But, one guy riding a Morgan mare made the mistake of commenting that they were used to riding with women who hung around riding the campgrounds so they would be close to the mirrors in the bath houses. I whispered to my sister "let's ride these two guys hard". And that's exactly what we did. Choatah boogied on down the trails and we did 15 miles in two hours. It was really funny. Choatah and I would come to the top of the hill on the trail and we'd stop, Choatah would turn his neck, look down the trail at everyone trying to keep up with us. Hopefully this guy will think twice before he makes a comment like that again reguarding riding with women.
