Christmas season in Puerto Rico is loud, festive, colorful and LONNNNNNG!!!!It begins on Thanksgiving weekend and ends on Three Kings day. Christmas trees and the dec.25 celebration day was brought to the island by the Germans. Before, the celebrated holiday was Jan. 7 Three kings day which is still recognized with gift giving. Christmas trees are flown in from the mainland and put up lavishly decorated. Because of the high humidity, good quality trees last very well from TG weekend til jan.7.... My mother sent me a beautifully decorated wreath from Maine every year which was greatly admired by every one except the lizard that lived in mailbox. There are so may island christmas traditions that I took for granted after 15 years , and now that I live in the states I kind of miss them just like I missed the snow when I was on the Island. As a matter of fact I looked for but could not find a pic of my first xmas, my sister and I got on the flat roof, jingled bells and poured down several large boxes of ivory flakes in front of my childrens bedroom windows. Later that day we had a tropical downpour, cant you close your eyes and picture this??????
