Message from Michael

This is the time of year when kids get to dress up in order to get some candy and have a lot of fun.  Now I am sure everyone has a certain view on whether Halloween is harmless or very evil.  I know I do.  At the same time I keep thinking, but how do the kids feel?  Do they trick or treat to worship Satan or do they  love candy?  I think we can all answer that.  Do your kids know the history of halloween?  Do you know?  Maybee most people don't even care because they just want their kids to have a good time.  Should kids be told?  I don't know.  I know I wasn't.

I know some people say there is more evil on Halloween than on any other day.  Wait a minute!  THere is always evil in the world.  That's why Christ died for us.  To take away our sin which is evil.  Maybe that's all we need to know.  Parents make sure your children know about Christ's death and resurrection.  He defeated evil once and for all!!

In Christ's love,

Bible Study

Because this month Halloween is "celebrated", I've decided to look into what the Bible says about witches, fortune tellers, seers, etc.

Deuteronomy 9-13 says a lot about it.  Here's what it says:

"When you enter the land of the LORD your God is giving you, do not lean to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there.  Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.  Anyone who does these detestabel practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you.  You must be blameless before the LORD your God."

The Bible clearly states that we shouldn't participate in these things.  What does this have to do with Halloween.  A lot.  On Halloween, more people than ever worship Satan, many unknowingly, by participating in the traditional practices.

Many churches have what is called a "Harvest Party" during the trick-or-treating hours to keep the kids from trick-or-treating.

What can we, as Christians, do about Halloween?  For the past couple of years, I have made up some "goody bags" with candy.  I also place in each bag a tract that I made up explaining what Christ did for us on the cross.  My reason?  Why not spread some good news on a night that is bad!  Even if one person out of the 30-35 kids that show up at my door are saved because of the tracts, then it's well worth it.

If you want to, do what I did.  It never hurts to share the gospel!

What are your thoughts on the subject?  What do you do for Halloween?  Write back, and we'll put the responses in a future newsletter.

Joke of the Month

Forrest Gump dies and goes to heaven.  He meets (Saint) Peter at the gates.  Peter tells Forrest:  Forrest!  What a pleasant surprise!  I've heard so much about you, and I've been wanting to meet you for some time!  Unfortunately, heaven is getting full, and we now require an entrance exam to get in.

Forrest says:  I don't know if I can do that or not.  I'm not real smart.
Peter says:  THere are only three questions, and they are really easy.
Forrest says:  Ok.  I'll give it a try.
Peter says:  Ok.  Here goes.  Question 1 is:  How many day of the week begin with the letter "T"? Questions 2 is: How many seconds are there in a year?  And question 3 is:  What is God's name?  Come back tomorrow and give me the answers.
Forrest says:  Ok. I will.

The next day, Forrest comes back.  Forrest!  I'm glad to see you're back!
Forrest says:  I think I have the answers for you.
Peter says: Ok. How many days of the week begin with the letter "T"?
Forrest says: Two.  Today and tomorrow.
Peter says: Ok.  I didn't think of that.  I wasn't specific, so I'll give you credit for that one.  What is the answer to the next question?  How many seconds are there in a year?
Forrest says:  12
Peter says: 12?! How did you get 12?
Forrest says:  That's easy.  January 2nd, February 2nd, March 2nd....
Peter says: Ok, ok.  You got me ther.  I wasn't specific, so I'll give you credit for that one too.  The last question.  What is God's name?

Forrest says:  Oh, that's easy.  Andy.
Peter says:  Andy?  How did you get Andy?  I can understand the days of the week and the seconds of the year, but I can't figure out how you got Andy to be God's name.

Forrest says:  Oh, that's simple.  From the song.
Peter says:  The song? What song?

Forrest says:  And He walks with me and He talks with me....
