JOHN PEEK II

The first child of John and Tabitha Peek was John C. Peek II who was born in approximately 1764 in Loudoun County, Virginia and died according to records on March 27, 1805.

It is mentioned in the HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS OF THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION, that John and Tabitha deeded to their son John on December 1, 1792, 6 slaves and an undetermined amount of land.

John’s son, John C. Jr., it is actually written John Peeke Jun., has a will recorded in EARLY WILL BOOK, COLUMBIA COUNTY, GEORGIA on March 27, 1805. We can assume his wife, as already dead by this date for he lists only his:

"beloved children Lurana Lewis Peeke and Louisana Thomas Peeke." He grants unto them "all and singular my goods and chattles, six Negroes to wit, Daniel Ned, Tukey, monday, Deliea, Priss four feather bed, and furniture, one bufat, one side board, and all the residue of my household furniture one sorrel horse saddle bridle two cows and calves, and personal estate."

Another reason we know John’s wife is dead is that he appoints a guardian for the girls..."for very good reason I do hereby constitute and appoint my friend John Lamken as Guardian or trustee to the person and property of my beloved children Lurana L. Peeke and Louisanna T. Peeke until they shall arrive to the State of Matrimony or attain to the age of twenty one years in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this twenty third day of February 1805." His brothers, Henry and Leod. M. Peeke were witnesses to this document. As stated earlier, John Peek Jr. died March 27, 1805 in Columbia County.
