More about John William PEEK:
We believe that our Peek line is descended from John William Peek. He may have been called Uncle Billy by those in Georgia and was the first son of Henry and Sarah. John was married three times. He had eight children with his first wife, no children with his second wife, and three with his third wife
His first wife was named Sarah (Sally) Odasser Daniel, the daughter of Stith and Mourning Pass Daniel; Stith Pass, the Justice of Peace, married them on Saturday, August 20, 1814 in Putnam County, Georgia.
This is part of the copy of the marriage contract between John and Sally. "To any ordained minister of the Gospel, judge justice of the inferior court of Justice of the Peace to celebrate and return to this office. You are hereby authorized to join together in the holy Estate of matrimony, John Peek and Sally O. Daniel and this be your sufficient warrant so doing-provided they are of lawful age and not within the la? degrees--given under my hand at office this 20th August 1814. signed Coleman Pendelton CCO. Then written license 25 August 1814 Stith Daniel J.P."
In about 1845, John married his second wife, a prominent rich widow probably of John Almand, Mary V.Dillard Almond, but by 1850 was divorced.
There are records showing that John Peek of Paulding County sold to William D. Almond, of Newton County, the son of Mary, 88 acres in Newton Co. for $25.00 on March 15, 1848. Then Mary V. Peek sold to the same son 88 acres in the same county on March 20, 1848 for $25.00. By the 1850 Newton County census Mary Peek, 54, is listed as living with her son William D. Almond, 29, and his family.
John had moved to Polk County in the Cedartown area
Henry, brother, his son Thomas and daughter Mary. But his sons Henry and John Fretwell stayed in Rockdale County and William William went to Carroll County, Georgia. On the 1850 Paulding (later Polk) county John is listed as being 56 and his daughter Mary is 13. His brother William and family are neighbors.
John’s third wife was Louisa Strong Pollard and they were married on February 28, 1854. This was exactly 40 years after his first marriage. Here is a list of John and Louisa’s children Georgia Ann, Millard Fillmore and Tabitha Louisa. They are listed in the 1860 Polk county census as John Peek 66, Louisa 40, Georgia Ann 5, Milliard F. 3, and Tabitha 1. John’s son, Thomas M. Peek is listed above him as a blacksmith, 32, along with his wife Jennetta 34, Thomas W. 13, John O. 11, William M. 9, Sarah R. 6, Troup B. 5, and Franklin F. 2. On the 1870 Carroll county census Georgia Ann is 15 and listed with a family named Broom and Tabitha is 12 and listed with a family named Embry, with no sign of Millard.. Neither John nor Louisa can be located, so probably she died and he was too old to care for these children. For John Peek didn’t die until February 22, 1875 in the Cedartown area at the age of eighty-one.
