Edward O. Paulson, '50Edward O. Paulson, '50, world famous artist, died eariv Tuesdav morning, Aug. 10, at his home in Cheboygan following a lingering illness of cancer. He was born April 29,1932 in Oak Park, Ill. to Otto and Ruby (Nelson) Paulson. He graduated from Western Military Academy, Alton. Ill. and business school in San Gabriel, CA. He is a member of The American Association of Railroad Superintendents, (the only artist who is a member of this organization), Newaygo Pilgrim Lodge No. 131 F&AM, the American Legion and life member of the National Rifle Association. A professional artist for the past 28 years, he was internationally recognized for his highly detailed and captivating railroad scenes which gained him the reputation of being one of the most renowned and historically correct artists in his field. Considered by many as an expert on trains, he was constantly sought out by many railroad soci-eties across the United States for information concerning locomotives. Most noteworthy in this area were his paintings of the Shay locomotive, invented by Ephram Shay of Harbor Springs. Living in Cheboygan the past 20 years and operating a studio from their home, Ed and his wife Yvonne. a husband and wife team, marketed original paintings, limited edition prints and greeting cards of train art, with distribution throughout the U.S. He also held a one man "Open House" art show/reunion in Chicago each year, and commissioned many paintings,from that prestigious show. His work is displayed, worldwide, in the Smithsonian Institute. Rode Museum in Germany and over 200 railroad offices nationally. Many notables including former Astronaut Atan B. Shepherd have purchased Edward 0. Paulson paintings. Localy many area businesses have his paintings, National City Bank, Community Memorial Hospital ECU, Hospice of the Straits and Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace. On April 17, 1954 Edward married Yvonnc (Ross) in Ludington and served in the Korean War. They lived in Albuquerque, NM where Ed was a building contractor, Real Estate broker and architectural designer. He was with the sheriff's department in Newport, Wash. and security work in the Chicago area, but always returned to painting, starting as a hobby ,which later turned into a full-time business. Also surviving are children, daughter, Kristen and her husband Albert Dobias. U.S. Navy, just returned from Korea and now Cheboygan; sons, Ross and Sherri Paulson of Augusta, WI; and Bradley Paulson of Everett, Wash., grandchildren Victoria, Eric, Sonja and Karl. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Berean Bible Church in Topinabee with Pastor Mike Wise officiating. Burial of his cremains was in Pine Hill Cemetery in Cheboygan. |
