A family I found online with Ohio connections:
Mary BRESNAHAN Birth: ABT 1857 in Columbus, Ohio Death: BET 1893 AND 1900

Note: The Bauer girls (grandchildren of Mary) used to go to Ohio to visit their Fitzgerald relations. So Mary's mother may well have been a Fitzgerald. No, it looks as though she adopted Nellie Fitzgerald, who would have been an aunt to the Bauer girls.

Can't find a Mary Bresnahan in Illinois in 1870 who was born in Ohio.

The 1870 Ohio Census has only one teenage Mary Bresnahan: Mary (17) living on farm in Napoleon Ohio with mother M. (43) and sisters Alice (14) and Adelia (19). That's up in the northwest corner of the state, probably not the right person anyway because our Mary would have been 12. (Napoleon was in Washington Township, in Henry County.) There is a 13-year-old Bridgit Bresneham, daughter of Patrick Bresneham, in Delaware Ohio that year.

No Bresnahans at all in Columbus in the 1860 Census. [There is an 8-year-old Mary (too old) living with John Bresnahan (35), a Tailor from Ireland living in Chillicothe, Ross County, along with his 85-year-old mother Honore, and siblings Johanna (5), Timothy (3), John (2) and Catharine (11mo). Chillicothe is due south of Columbus, about level with Cincinnati.]

1st Ward - got through image 94 of 94. Found no Bresnahans.
2nd Ward - got through image 66 of 66. Found no Breshahans.
3rd Ward - got through image 80 of 80. Found no Bresnahans.
4th Ward - got through image 100 of 100. Found no Bresnahans. You'd think there'd be at least one by now.
5th Ward - got through image 97 of 97. Found no Bresnahans. Not a single one. It looks, therefore, like the Bresnahan family had not yet moved there. Perhaps still in Ireland in 1850.
