THE BRIARD HISTORY
Ok, guys and gals, here comes the history part of my breed. Some of you might find it boring and some of you might find it interesting. Either way, pay attention, you might actually learn something!
The briard or Chien Berger de Brie is known as a working dog. It was used to herd both sheeps and cows in the early years.
The briard is very easy to train and with the intelligence it holds, its being used as police dogs, rescue dogs and seeing eye dog, all around the world.
During both world wars, the briard was used as a carrier of ammunition and in the Red Cross service. With its good nose and hearing, it tracked down lots of wounded soldiers so that the rescue people from the Red Cross could help them.
In France, the breed was known as early as in the year 700.
In USA, the first briard was registered in 1925, but the breed came to America alot earlier with french emigrants.
In England the breed wasn't known until late 1960. In 1969, the two first briards was shown at Crufts dog show. Today, the average number of briards showed at that dog show is about 100.
The first two briards known in Norway was a female and a male in 1975. They were imported from England.

There' s lots more I could write about the briard, but I guess I got to stop somewhere. A more humoristic description of the briard is on the "Watch Out"-page. Check it out, it describes the briard perfectly!
