Fall Around Challenge

This is a limited-size border challenge that will be built around a center medallion and here are the guidelines:

1.     There will be as many groups of five people as are necessary to include all those who want to participate.  The names for each group will be drawn out of a “hat” by the board members.  The original sign-up for the challenge will be held at the Birthday Party in July.  If you will not be here at the July meeting, please let Jonnie know before then if you want to participate.

2.     Bags for each group will be supplied by the guild and each group will have it’s own color/design of bag.  Quilts will be passed at each monthly meeting and will not be shown to the owner or at meetings until final unveiling of the quilt tops in January.

3.     Center Medallion can be no shorter than 10” on any side and no longer than 14” on any side (i.e., it can be a rectangle or a square).

4.     Center Medallion cannot be set on point.

5.     No border will be more than a finished 4” wide.

6.     A spacer strip no wider than 1” finished can be used as long as it’s counted as part of the 4” width of the border.

7.     No “plain” borders (just solid strips) are allowed.

8.     Owner may include fabric and border makers are requested to stay with the “feel and look” of any fabric that it is included (i.e., don’t use 1930s fabrics with a bali).

9.     Please follow the color of the background the original block maker used (e.g., if the maker uses beige, please use beige not white).

10.  These designs are to be used to create the borders:  9-patch, square-in-a-square, stars, Chinese coins, half-square triangles, appliqué’, checkerboard, flying geese, pinwheels, strings, curves, foundation-pieced designs.

11. If foundation-pieced designs are used, please trim the seams during block construction and remove the paper before passing along the quilt.
