Tessellating Triangle

8.5 inches unfinished on each side

Colors

This is your opportunity to use up some of those scraps.

  1. The border around the triangle is made up of strips of scraps in various colors.
  2. The center triangle is an off white or light beige print.

Cut

  1. Starch and press the triangle fabric before you cut it. This will reduce the stretch in this bias piece.
  2. Cut a beige equilateral triangle with all sides measuring 6.5 inches and all angles measuring 60'. If you have a triangle ruler this will help otherwise use the 60' line on your regular ruler.

  1. Sew strips of fabric together and cut them to a width of 1.5 inches. They should be long enough to hang off the edge of the triangle.
  2. Sew the strip to the triangle and use a rotary cuter and ruler to trim the strip as shown to continue the edge of the triangle.
  3. Sew two more strips and repeat step 3 for each in turn.
  4. The finished triangle should look like the finished triangle at the top of the page.

Note - Keep in mind that you are working with bias edges on the triangle. Take care not to stretch the fabric when working with it.
