Arkansas Crossroads

8 1/2 inch unfinished

Colors

This block uses four colors.  Your reds can be anything from a bright red to a dark red.  I used scraps for mine.

  1. Color one is a light gray print for the background
  2. Color two is a red print or plaid.
  3. Color three is red solid or a fabric that looks solid from 5 feet away.
  4. Color four is a red print or plaid.

Cut –

2 – 4 ½ inch squares from color 1(gray background)

1- 2 ½ inch strip from colors 2 and 3.

4- 2 ½  inch squares from color 4.

Piece

1.      Strip piece color 2 and 3 fabrics together.

2.      Cut this strip set into 2 ½ inch segments.

3.      Sew two of these segments together to form a four patch.

4.      Draw a diagonal line on all the 2 1/2 inch squares.

5.      Place smaller square right sides together on the corner of each gray square so that the diagonal line touches two sides of the larger square.

6.      Stitch on the diagonal line.

7.      Press smaller square towards the corner.

8.      Repeat steps 4 through 7 on the opposite diagonal corner of the gray square.

9.      Repeat steps 4 through 8 on the other gray square.

10.  Sew one four patch to a gray square with the two red prints touching.

11.  Repeat step 9.

12.  Sew the two rows together to achieve the finished square shown above.

·        NOTE – Check to make sure that your reds aren’t going to bleed.  I’ve had problems with three different reds recently.
