Basket Weave Block (12 ½ inch unfinished block)

Colors: the colors should contrast
Color A- any bright
Color B- any bright

Cut:
3- 1 ½ inch strips x 28 inches of color A
3- 1 ½ inch strips x 28 inches of color B

Piece:

  1. Sew strips of color A and B together as shown above.
  2. Cut the two sets of strips into 16-3 ½ inch squares.
  3. Orient all the ABA blocks so the strips run horizontally, orient all the BAB blocks so the strips run vertically.
  4. Sew together into rows as shown above –2 rows each of :

  6. Sew the rows together following the diagram at the top of the page.

   NOTE: If you are having trouble getting your blocks to be 12 ½ inches square, try using a "scant" ¼ inch seam allowance. That means sew your seam allowance just short of ¼ inch. That makes up for the amount of space the fabric takes up in pressing.
