  • 2- 8 7/8" squares cut in half diagonally--A-- (for each completed block will need 4 triangles)
  • 8- 2 7/8" squares--for half-square triangles (for each completed block you will need 16)
  • 2- 2 7/8" squares cut in half diagonally --D--
  • 2- 4 7/8" squares, cut in half diagonally--B--(for each completed block you will need 4 triangles.)

from light scraps:

  • 8- light 2 7/8" squares for half-square triangles (for each completed block you will need 16)
  • 4- light 2 1/2" squares for corners--C

Piece:

  1. For each quarter block, select one each A, B, and C, plus 2 D triangles. (See diagram).
  2. Join two of the 2 7/8" squares together to form 4 half square triangles. (place the light square on top of the dark square, draw a diagonal line and sew a 1/4" seam on each side of the line. Cut the square in half between the two stitching lines and press toward the dark triangle.)
  3. Join half-square triangles together in pairs, sewing light sides to dark sides as shown in diagram A.  Join one extra D triangle to light end of each pair. Press toward dark fabrics.
  4. Sew 1 half-square triangle unit to 1 leg of B triangle. Press
  5. Join A triangle as shown to complete quarter block.
  6. Join four quarter blocks for each block. Join units in pairs, sewing A triangle of unit 1 to D triangle-square edge of second unit.
  7. Join pairs as shown to complete a block
