Log Cabin Scrap Block

Cut for each block
1/2"
inch strips of light and dark
1- 2 7/8"
square of dark (cut in half diagonally)
1- 2 7/8" square of light (cut in half
diagonally)
Piece
- Sew a light and dark triangle together. Press toward dark fabric. (fig A.)
- Start with one light strip. With right sides together, match strip to light side of 1
triangle-square (fig. B). Trim even with bottom of square. Press seam toward new log.
- Turn unit so new log is at the top. With right sides together, match another light strip
to remaining light edge of triangle-square and sew. Trim new log even with bottom of unit
as before. Press toward new log. (fig C.)
- Turn unit so new log is at the top. With right sides facing, match dark strip to dark
edge of triangle-square and sew. Trim even. Press. (fig D.)
- Continue in this manner until you have 3 logs on all sides of the center. (fig E.)
Always press toward new log, then rotate to put new log at top edge of the block to add
new log.
