Square in a Square with sashing
(6¾ inch square without the sashing)
Colors:
- black for sashing
- 2 other contrasting colors for block
- third color for sashing corner
Cut for each block
- 1-5" square
- 2-4"squares cut in half diagonally to get 4 triangles for each block
- 2-1½x6¾ strips of black for sashing
- 1-1½" square for corner of sashing
Piece
- Pair 1 set of triangles with each 5" square
- Fold 5" square in half vertically and horizontally and finger press
- With right sides together, match long edge of triangle to one side of square, matching
the point of the triangle with the crease (triangle is a bit longer than the square, so it
will extend a bit at the corners). Stitch and repeat on the opposite side of the square.
- Press triangles to the right side, and then sew two more triangles.
- Add sashing to one side, add the square to the end of one sashing and sew to the
adjacent side as shown on the top of the page.
