September Block of the Month

This block is to be made for turning in to the September 1998 meeting. For as many blocks as you turn in, you may put your name in for drawing all of the blocks out. Please either pin a piece of paper with your name to the blocks, or affix an address label. **Note: All seams are 1/4" seams.

Autumn Leaves

Instructions

Block size will be 6"/6 1/2" unfinished.


Fabrics: fall leaves (golds, reds, leaf prints, hand-dyed fall colors, etc.) with black for the background.


Black background fabric: 2 2-1/2" square blocks
3 2-7/8" squares, cut diagonally


Fall leaf fabric: 1 2-1/2" square blocks
3 2-7/8" squares, cut diagonally


Stem suggestions: Hand applique 1/4" (adding seam allowance) fabric, fuse and satin stitch fabric, satin stitch a line of contrasting thread, fuse fabric without stitching, 1/4" hand-appliqued ribbon.


NOTE: **** Remember to applique your stem BEFORE sewing the block together. Otherwise, there would have to be some creative thinking in order to keep from picking the "stem piece" apart.


Sew as shown using 1/4" seam. This is another block that goes together beautifully with a minimum amount of time. The black background really sets off the fall leaves!
