The King's Own Scottish Borderers





A Brief History


The King's Own Scottish Borderers were formed by Royal Warrant on the 18 March 1689. In just 2 hours, over 800 men were sworn to protect the Scottish capital, once established they became known as the Edinburgh Regiment of Foot.

The Regiment has served with distinction in almost every campaign and won battle honours from campaigns in:


The Seven Years War.

The Napoleonic Wars.

India and Pakistan.

World War 1 and 2.

Korea and Malaya.

Aden and the Radfan.

The Gulf War.

During World War 2 the Regiment were involved in campaigns throughout Burma and in the Battles of Dunkirk, D-Day and Arnhem.

Over the last five years the Regiment has exercised in Kenya, twice been to the USA and sent groups to Pakistan, Frrance and Norway. The 1st Battalion has also been committed to service in Northern Ireland where it has worked extensively in support of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.


The Regiment Today


The King's Own Scottish Borderers are currently in Episkopi as part of a 2 year posting to Cyprus. The 1st Battalion will be participating in exercises held in Jordan and the Falkland Islands along with many sporting and adventurous training expeditions held on the island and overseas. The facilities available to the Battalion currently enable virtually any pastime from scuba diving to rock climbing to be undertaken close to home and in glorious conditions.
