Freer's in Lamar County

DEDICATION

To all the many Freers out there who are searching, struggling, and being flustered by the loss of the line. I wish you the best of luck and I hope that this page will help you with your search.

To begin this page I will say that this family is most confusing!  Lines start and end abruptly, leaving no clues to the connections.

Thomas Henry Freer (was called Henry) is believed to be the son of Thomas Freer Jr. and Ester McCoy (Shattuck) Freer but this is yet to be proven. He was born May17, 1850 in Massac County Illinois . He came to Lamar Co. from there via Popular Bluff Mo. area.   He lived and worked In the Lamar and Red River Co.s until he purchased his own land. He was a farmer and a blacksmith in and around the Faught Tx. area His shop was in Faught on the road to Paris Tx. Everyone traveling to Paris from that area passed his shop. His farm land was located south and east of Faught. He became ill and died suddenly, it is believed from the influenza epidemic of 1918. The actual place of his burial is not known at this time, yet I believe he is buried in Red Oak Cem. of Lamar County near his first wife and son. It is told that he was an orphan ( this is only a story) when he came to Lamar Co.  According to the 1900 Lamar county Census he was in the Union Army during the war of the Rebellion. His Family has never been discussed. No one connected with the family seems to know any information about this. He was a secretive man and didn't even allow his name to appear on the census rolls of these counties until 1870, where I found him and his younger family. In all the generations that I have talked with His family is unknown.

Thomas Henry Freer's Eldest Son, also named Thomas Henry Freer ( was called Thom).   He worked as a teamster for an oil drilling co. in Texas and Oklahoma. His actual job was to haul water, pipe, and lumber to and from the job site.  His sons also worked for the same co. They hauled water, worked the drill, and any job that was available at the time. He died May 2, 1941 in Maude Oklahoma. He was separated from his wife after his last child was born. There are no records of a divorce, the Lamar county Court House burned in 1916 that destroyed all records prior to that date, Thomas Henry (Thom) remarried in 1917, a license is on hand for that marriage. He raised all his children with the exception of Roy Thomas who was raised by his first wife's Sister and brothers. Roy claimed that he knew nothing about them, However he lived with them for a time in Oklahoma when he was about 17. Many different stories are out there, but these are as directly repeated as I can. The problems that exist in families cause many hardships when tracing out family trees and should be avoided. I have tried to give the linage to the best of my knowledge with what proof that I have. Please contact me If you know of any further info we can use.

I have located much more information on the Freer Line through the efforts of many new friends and distant Cousins. I wish to take this opportunity to say THANKS for your  help and support.
