Babypanther Japanese Lesson No.1
After I thought seriously what kind of topic would be good as the first lesson, I chose the material of Love which is the theme that never ends between men & women. Probably, it is not a right sequence to learn Japanese. But I feel it is necessary to learn language with fun.
Konban Ohima?
(Means "Are you free tonight?")
In my all life, I have two times experiences to hear this word. ( I will leave you to take this fact as "You are lonesome." or "You are very popular." ) When I heard this word, I could not respond immediately. Because my heart was beating.(Please do not laugh.) I used the word "By the way". If I said "Yes", my whole life would be different one. But there is no "If" in our lives. Please don't be nervous, Haruko. I chose you, regardless it is a good decision or not.(It is a joke. Smile! Haruko, my controller!)
I never said this from myself. Haruko. I will not cheat you. Probably not. I think probably not. I have never.(Please trust me.(=^^=))
If you are an employee who is working in Japan, please be careful to use this word. Japanese women are getting Americanized day by day. They may sue you as a sexual harassment.
If I directly translate "Konban Ohima?" into English , it is "Are you free tonight?". Probably, the person who told this to you likes you for sure. I can not say it is including something more or not. This word is not completely comparable to "Are you free tonight? " in English. Sometimes , it may be including more passion to you. Sometimes not. It depends.(Good word!)
You can see some scripts as an example.
Kyouha tukaretawa. (Uh, I got tired today.)
Kyouha (today) tukaretawa (tired (wa: women's word))
Honto kibisiin dakara. (You are so relentless.)
Honto (really) kibisii (relentless) dakara (something coquettish ,(women's words))
Kyouha kinyoubi yone. (Today is Friday, isn't it?)
Kyouha (today) kinyoubi (Friday) yone.(something coquettish, women's words)
Osakega nomitaiwa. (I need drink.)
Osake (drink (booze)) nomitaiwa (would like to drink (wa: women's word))
Ikinuki iruyo. (You need to take rest for a change.)
Ikinuki (something to change one's mind) iruyo (you need)
Konban Ohima (Are you free tonight?)
Konban (tonight) Ohima (free)
It is not reflecting my experience at all. (Just to be sure!) I hope you can learn a lot of Japanese Language in the first lesson. (Smile!) Again, it is kind of persistent though, it is not based on my experience.
Point of lesson
Most of cases subject is omitted in verbal Japanese.
