Double-Ruffled Sock Edge
by Pat Harper

Materials: Small amount of size 10 thread
US 7 steel hook
Pair of girl's socks, any size

Foundation round: Starting from back of sock edge and working on wrong side of sock (it will actually be the right side when cuff is folded over), make an even number of sc's with ch 1 between all around the edge. The sc's should be close together for a full ruffle. Example: For a toddler's size, I made 42 sc's with ch 1 between each sc. Join in 1st sc with sl st.

FIRST RUFFLE:

Rnd 1. Sl st in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, sc in same sp. *Ch 3, skip next ch 1 sp, sc in next sp. Repeat from * around, only instead of sc, end with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2. Sl st in next ch 3 sp, ch 4 (counts as 1st dc + ch 1), (dc, ch 1) 3 times in same space, dc in same space. * Ch 1, dc in next sp, (ch 1, dc in same sp) 3 times, ch 1, dc in same space. Repeat from * around, end with ch 1, sl st in 3rd ch of 1st ch 4.

(Note: You will have 5 dc's in each space, separated by 1 ch st, and 1 ch between each 5 dc group.)

Rnd 3: Sl st in 1st ch 1 space, ch 4, dc in same space. (Ch 1, dc, ch1, dc) in each ch 1 space around. Sl st in 3rd ch of ch 4, finish off.

SECOND RUFFLE:

Rnd 1: Starting in next skipped ch 1 space on cuff, make sc in space, ch 3, * sc in next skipped ch 1 space, ch3. Repeat from * around, end with sl st in first sc.

Rnd 2: Repeat Rnd 2 of FIRST RUFFLE, finish off.

Repeat above steps for second sock.
