RON'S TALES

FOR A LILLE TUPIN OR TUTA

CHILDREN'S STORIES SET ON PLAIN VIEW FARM

THE CRACKED POTTY

<

The Moral of this Story is that it is better to tell your parents when you do something wrong than keep it to yourself.

Grandpa and Grandma Stadem's California grandson, Del Von, had a snazzy pink plastic potty that he liked to play with. Was it made in Disneyland? Or even Hollywood? Nothing like it had been seen in South Dakota before--that is one thing certain. It was his favorite toy on the Farm. Little Ronny his one year older cousin, who had no such pink potty of his own to play with, grabbed it when Del Von wasn't paying attention. Then Ronny hid it in what he thought was a place Russ would never find it.

Well, one day the whole family and Grandma Bergit and Grandpa Alfred Stadem all got in the big car and went to Bryant, and on the way back from town in the car they got stuck. Just like it does now, a lot of water had crossed the road, and when they drove through it the wheels bogged down in the mud. Everyone had to get out. Oooh, yuk! the gooey mud! They had to take off their shoes and stockings and step in the mud to help push the car out. Little Ronny, being thought too small to be any help, was left in the car, so he didn't have to get his feet muddy like everyone else. He wasn't disappointed. He didn't want to work, or get out of the nice, dry car like the others and get muddy. Let the big people do it!, he thought.

Then his dad repeatedly pushed down and let off the gas pedal in a way to rock the car back and forth as the others shoved. Back and forth, back and forth the big car lurched. Suddenly, there was a loud crack, almost like a rifle shot. Ronny's dad yelled out, "What was that?"

Ronny knew in an instant. "Oh, no, Del Von's potty I hid from him under Dad's seat! Dad's broken it! Boy, am I going to get it now!"

Fortunately, the adults were too busy trying to get the car out to take any time to investigate under the seat, and soon they were on their way again to Plain View Farm, the loud cracking noise completely forgotten. Poor Del Von! He never got his beautiful potty toy back--not even in pieces.

Do you act like Ronny did when you do something wrong? Are you afraid of a spanking from your Mom and Dad? Why not tell them? They love you very much. You need to tell them. Otherwise you'll carry the memory, and it will become very heavy, and get heavier as long as you carry it. It is much better telling on yourself, and getting it forgiven and off your mind than carrying it all alone yourself.
