Mouswald Church sits on the southern side of the village of Drumlanrig. The only remaining sign of its connection with the Carruthers family is the effigy of Sir Simon Carruthers, 7th of Mouswald, which is behind the wing on the left side of the church. The effigy was originally inside the church, but was placed outside when the church was rebuilt and reduced in size. The matching effigy of his wife has long since disappeared.
