Ruthwell Church, England

Ruthwell Church is the family church of the Murrays of Cockpool. The original family seat of Cockpool is known to have been near here. When the family moved to Comlongon Castle, Ruthwell remained the family church. As is frequently the case, there is little sign inside the church of the dominant family, except for the beautiful stained glass windows that face the altar and a plaque on one wall. The church itself is known for the Ruthwell Cross, a unique 18 foot high Runic cross from the 7th century covered with carvings of Biblical scenes. Against the outside wall are several Carruthers tombstones.
