Orford castle was built between 1165 and 1173 at the order of King Henry II. All that remains of this castle is the keep. The walls and other buildings are gone, although the positions are suggested by the irregularities of the surrounding ground. Sir Henry Wingfield (c1434-6 May 1494) was governor of Orford Castle in the 1480's.
