He is very handsome and will be 9 years old in September. (I previously owned a fawn dane years ago who I showed with some success, but he died of bloat at jus 3 years of age.) This dane, Montgomery, or Monty to close friends, looks and acts like a 2 year old. His best friend is our other dog, a shepherd called Barney who is 10 years old. We have been blessed with having two healthy dogs, who are really chil substitutes as we have no children. My only complaint with this fantastic breed is that their size precludes me from taking them everywhere with me. I would prefer to have the dog with me all the time, but he takes up too much room in my car!!!! Other ise, I would have a hundred of them, they are without doubt the BEST dog of all. Your site is great and thanks for the chance to tell my little story in your guest book. |

He just turned six this past January and is the absolute love of my life. Although he has endured a few bumps, namely bloat surgery at a year and a half, and most recently knee surgery this past summer, e continues to bounce like a puppy. My best days are spent hiking through Central Park or trekking through Bloomingdale's with Captain in tow. We are constantly stopped by Dane owners and normal people alike, for his size, attention, and "smile" are captivating. The first dog i have ever owned was a tan male great dane, and he was the most beautiful, loyal dog i have ever seen. I smiled, I laughed, I thought...been there, done that!! I have a merle girl, coming 3 years old in May, named Abby. She is our joy and laughter. She is also like Babs, who sticks her nose under your arm just as you are taking a sip of hot coffee, so I had to laugh at that one. I like big dogs, so when we regretfully put our old, ill collie down, I told my husband I just couldn't get another dog right now. Five days later I brought Abby home. I had always liked Danes, and my aunt in Texas had them for years. I originally went to look at a Mantle that was being held for me. The breeder called the puppies out and I forgot all about a Mantle! Here was this little blue merle girl hurtling out of the field in a sea of Mantles and Harls. It was love at first sight. She is a big girl now, but quite refined in her features. Very feminine looking, very protective of her family, especially when her "mommy or kids" are in the yard. We never need worry about someone sn tching our kids out of our yard. Ain't gonna happen!! When I first got her, I had home daycare. She grew along with the kids, albeit at a faster rate! When the kids laid down for naps, so did Abby. Many was the time she would lay on the living room floor hile 8 little pairs of hands would pat her. She also wasn't above knocking little people over in her zealousness to be even closer to them. I can't imagine not having her now, nor do I want to. Interestingly, the other breed of dog I really like is the Ai edale, you've got both which makes you topnotch in my book. I like people dogs, and don't have much time for lap dogs, although I like all dogs. I am just a big dog person. Thank you for allowing outsiders into your family. God Bless. We have a black Lab and just last week got a fawn female Great Dane. Although we have always despised pet stores and what they can represent (we have always adopted or rescued) we were walking by and these horrid people were trying to purchase her. My husband has wanted a Great Dane all his life so guess what happened! Her name is Zoe and she is very intelligent and housetraining quite well already. She is chewing everything in sight but since we have a one year old boy (Max) and a three year old (Kayla) there are plenty of chew toys. She is unregistered but our vet is comming to check her over. We are doing research on the breed so that we may be able to care for her properly. Our Lab Shadow took one look at her when we brought her home and looked at me as if to say, we're not keeping this are we! If you have any advice or tips we should greatly appreciate it although I am sure your email is quite extensive. Again, we so enjoyed haring your family pictures, thank you. |

When she died we decided to try a Standard Poodle, but about six months later we were still missing our Dane, so we bought a beautiful itch out of a Harlequin breeding. Her mom was a Mantle and dad was a champion Harlequin. Roo is white with black markings over both eyes and ears and one small black spot at the base of her tail. She is lovely and sweet and has a great sense of humor. S e just turned two and we are thinking about breeding her soon. I enjoyed your Dane pictures and hope to see more when I come back! He was 8 weeks old. Because he was black, the children named him Onyx, after the black protection stone. We had decided before we even acquired him that he would be an indoor dog. Alot of people, including our vetinarian, think that is absurd, but from the beginning, he was very easy to train, being very sensitive, and we have a closed off laundry room/pantry/back room type situation where he can sleep and have his accidents, (like when he sneaks into the t ash can). Our vet. has him on a very strict and non-versitile diet, which he says is very important to these dogs. I can see that whenever he gets any other type food. At three months old he learned to ring a doorbell which I hung on the front door dur ng the Christmas season when he needed outside. I knew right then that these dogs had brilliant minds. Of course we left the doorbell on so that he can always tell us when he needs out without scratching the door!! Just hang a bell from the front door kn b and the dogs will learn to ring it themselves. A great tool!! I loved your dogs! |

Your dogs are all beautiful!! I especially liked Babs as she has a look that I find appealing in a dog. I own a weirmaraner at the moment but he is still living with his daddy (we didn't feel it was fair to take him from the place he regards as home) he visits me on weekends and walkies time (he walks/runs 17 - 20 kms almost everyday - you cannot wear-out a weirmaraner!!) I miss having a dog, they are that constant companion and that comfortable always with you presence. Danes are another breed that I really like and hope to get one all of my very own. I would really appreciate any information you could send me in my sea ch for my very own Dane. Thank you, Marianne Connell |
