PAAMNOC NEWSLETTER
Winter 2003
Pagemaster's addition
Our annual Spring Dinner was held Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Fort Monmouth Officers’ Club. The annual dinner was a great success again. Bob Silverman'55 chaired the event, not wearing 55's 25th Reunion Jacket. Professor Sean Wilentz was a very interesting speaker. He competed successfully with the Fort's Flag Day fireworks, and recounted events from New Jersey History. There really was a Molly Pitcher, but what was her real name?.
PAAMNOC NEWLETTER
WINTER 2003
by Liz Reilly'81
Secretary
par excellence!
Change in PAAMNOC newsletter delivery. If Alumni Records has your email, odds are that you're receiving this missive electronically. Otherwise this letter should arrive in the traditional hard-copy fashion. We are planning to use email as our preferred delivery mechanism henceforth, in the interest of reducing costs and especially wear and tear on yours truly. Annual dues will be requested in May instead of in September, in order to coincide with the unavoidable paper mailing we must send out with Annual Dinner information. Of course you may feel free to send in your PAAMNOC dues any time of year :-)
Temporary Change in PAAMNOC Officers. Liz Greenberg '02 has picked up the slack for our ASC Chair, Miriam Garber '88, who is on winter hiatus. Thank you Liz for taking over so gracefully on such short notice for Miriam! Liz has been busy making sure as many of the roughly 200 (!) area candidates for the class of 2007 have the opportunity for an ASC interview as possible. Special thanks to new ASC interviewers Jill Boyce *91, Liz Eaton '93, Douglas Kochman '96, Tom Magnus '77, and Doug Mallach '91. Liz has even been recruiting her newly-graduated Tiger pals from outside of our area (Erik Limpaecher '01, Meredith Moroney '02, Joanna Ganson '02 and Rob Laset '02) to help out! A big PAAMNOC thank you to them too. When Liz isn't working on ASC affairs, she is the Assistant Director for Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall. She invites all PAAMNOC-ers to stop in and see her anytime they are on campus!
News from On-Campus. As usual this time of year, our seniors are busy! Laura Dannen '03 writes, "I'm in thesis crunch mode right now, trying to get a draft done before my Spring Break trip to Spain to visit my boyfriend who's abroad for the semester...my thesis is now officially titled "Australian Multicultural Policy and the Politics of Identity." I'm only taking 2 classes, but they sound great: ANT 330 Indigenous People and the Right to Cultural Integrity, and MUS 264 Urban Blues and the Golden Age of Rock and Roll...otherwise, I'm spending time at Charter (it's sign-ins/bicker week), playing indoor soccer and coaching my 4th-6th grade girl's basketball team. As for the future, I'm planning on taking the year off to travel and freelance for newspapers before (hopefully--acceptance pending!) attending journalism graduate school. Mo Bolger '03 is also working on her thesis: "I can't believe it's my last semester. I'm taking it one day at a time and relishing every moment here. My thesis work is very enjoyable, and second semester classes seem interesting as well. I am also assistant coaching the Princeton High School Swim Team. The "little tigers" are looking to win the Public "B" state finals--it is making for a very exciting end of the year!" Not to be outdone, our juniors and sophmores are hard at work too, both academically and socially. Sasha Rao '04 checks in: "I'm now in my third unbelievable year at Princeton. I am currently a chemical engineering major and am just wrapping up my junior independent work on DNA combing. Outside of the academic realm, I am a Residential Community Advisor (commonly known as an RA) in Wilson College, and I have accepted a RCA position for next year as well. I sing in a community service music group called Music Outreach which performs at different nursing homes in the area several times a year. On the social end, I am a member of the Princeton Tower Club, and we are currently all very busy with bicker and selecting the next batch of amazing sophomores to dine, dance, and drink with us." Finally, Julie Kestenman '05 lets us know what she's been up to: "125 sophomores--myself included--have all joined Quadrangle Club this week, tripling the club's overall size. I will be interviewing Miss America (who is visiting the campus to give a talk on harassment) for the Daily Princetonian, where I just became a senior writer. This past semester I also joined a group called Sustained Dialogue, which meets bi-weekly to discuss race relations on campus. I am still majoring in Operations Research and Financial engineering, a department in which I had a very successful fall semester. This semester, in addition to my ORFE classes, I am talking the Cornel West class and a seminar on Foreign Correspondence with a Pulitzer prize winning New York Times writer." Whew! It's nice to know how much our younger Tigers enjoy - and appreciate - their time at the best old place of all.
Early Decision Matriculants. Speaking of young Tigers, four of our region's Early Decision candidates were accepted. They are: George Richdale of Lincroft (Christian Brothers Academy), Julie Wu (Manalapan HS), Rachel Farnsworth (Pt. Pleasant Borough HS), and Gregory Redman (Rumson-Fair Haven HS). Congratulations and we look forward to meeting these young men and women in June at our...
Annual Dinner. Once again we will be holding our Annual Dinner
at the Fort Monmouth Officer's Club. We will invite both the local members
of the incoming freshman class and our graduating seniors as our guests.
We will also offer a reduced dinner rate for current Undergraduate and
Graduate students. Mark your calendar for Friday, June 13; more details
including map and registration information will be in the May newsletter.

Alumni Schools Committee (ASC). The importance of an alumni interview cannot be overstated: it can be a factor in whether an applicant is admitted, and those who have had alumni interviews are more likely to matriculate at Princeton. Miriam Garber ‘88 is Chairperson of our Alumni Schools Committee (ASC) and Liz Silverberg'02 is acting Chair. They are looking for additional alumni/ae to help in the interviewing process. The number of applicants from our area is always high, and this time of year produces a last-minute surge. Please call or email Liz or Miriam (see List of Officers, below). We’ll have a full report of area application and admission statistics in the May newsletter.
Every member of our local Princeton community is encouraged
to send news to the Secretary. If you have different seasonal addresses
and would to ensure that your PAAMNOC newsletters arrive at the right place
at the right time, please drop a note or email to the Secretary.

My 25th Reunion Jacket still fits and my bride
Nance (Penn 52) found my hat, which also fits,
so I wore them to the dinner. There was one alumna wearing
her Jacket, so there were three. I think the custom should be encouraged.
