Fallingbrook Neighbourhood Watch
We believe in this program and we want to continue to inform you with our Newsletter and now that we have our website we can keep all the residents well informed on the happenings in Fallingbrook. At this point we need to increase the participation from the community to a level which is acceptable by the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police in order to be qualified in an active Neighbourhood Watch Program. The level we need to reach is 80% of the approximately 6000 homes in Fallingbrook. We will continue in the meantime to contact all homes who wish to take part and I will ensure that all the Street Capitains from each street get the necessary materials that are needed to ensure the proper running of this program and their tasks.
What is the Neighbourhood Watch Program ?
Without even realizing it, we do what is expected from the Neighbourhood Watch Program; we pick up the newspaper for a neighbour on holidays thus incrwasing the security of our homes, etc... The goal of this program is to prevent crime and we all want to protect our belongings. In an effort that is coordinated has a better chance of success rather then single efforts spread out amongst our neighbours. The Neighbourhood Watch Program will furnish you with all necessary materials as well as the coordination.
Because we already do Neighbourhood Watch subconsciously you are probably asking yourself why should we register then ? Registering is done for the following four (4) reasons:
The Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police requires that 80% of the homes be registered before the "Neighbourhood Watch" gets installed on all the streets entering Fallingbrook. These signs warn all would be criminals that our Community fights against crime and is active.
The Program also furnishes all information in regards to security on ways to improve your security at your own choices;
The Program also supplies you with the information needed to establish your "Security Team". This Team is normally comprised of your home, your neighbour from either side of you and the three (3) neighbours directly facing you. This is not written in stone but strongly recommended so that it permits other members of the program to mutually watch each others property; and
we include your phone number in our "Emergency Phone List". This list is used solely to dispatch in a quick manner any information regarding security aspects in your area. We periodically have tests of the phone system from time to time so that we may verify its effectiveness:
Minimum required information to register is:
the name of an adult from the residence; and
the phone number of your residence (indicate if "non-published").
We now have thirty-five (35) Street Capitains but we still need the others to make this Program work. Should you be interested please contact me.
Neighbourhood Watch reduces crime but only with your participation. Without your eyes, this program won't succeed. Continue your involvement, don't hesitate to contact me for more information if necessary.
