PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
President's Word.
I have been living in Fallingbrook since 1991 where I joined the Association in November of 1994 and brought back from a dormant state the Neighbourhood Watch Program in Fallingbrook. After two years with the Association as the Neighbourhood Watch Chair, I was asked to join the Association as a Class A Director and at the May 1996 Annual General Meeting, I was voted in as the Vice-President.
As Vice-President, It was my responsibility and goal to be the best President the Fallingbrook Community Association would have. I got my wish at the Annual General Meeting in 1997 and became the next President at age 31 and I have been in this position ever since.
In 1997, I handed the Neighbourhood Watch Program to Roger Lapointe so that I could devote my time to the Association. In my first term of Office, I stated in my address that I had three (3) goals to set:
- With the executives that came on-board and being in a society that has access to the internet highway, I wanted the Association to be connected to the highway so that the Association as well as the residents of Fallingbrook could have another form of access to us. This move also cut back on many lenghty meetings, discussions and long debates.
- Next I wanted to help promote the need and usage for a Community Centre in Fallingbrook. With a Municipal Election around the corner, our Mayor and Council shortly after being elected and passed a resolution setting aside $1.1 for the building of the Community Centre at Valin and Provence.
- My biggest challenge was when I approached the Association with the thought of being on the web. Our Association spent many hours of lenghty discussions and before the next Annual General Meeting of 1998, The Fallingbrook Community Association launched a temporary website at http://geocities.datacellar.net/heartland/flats/9306 before getting our own domain at http://www.fallingbrook.com.
- 1998 saw the beginning of two new annual events in Fallingbrook being the Annual Winterfest held in February and the launch of the Youth Dances held every third Friday for kids aged 12-16. We had a slow start to both of these events and I know with the volunteers we now have, it could become as popular as our Annual Canada Day.
In April of 1999, we saw the building of the new Cumberland Library and later on in September, we will open Fallingbrook's New Community Center.
The 1999 Canada Day saw myself as President of the Fallingbrook Community Association hold the well deserved Memorial Cup with five (5) of the 1999 Champions Dan Tessier, Miguel Delisle, Seamus Kotyk, Ben Gustavson and Nick Boynton as well as the presence of Assistant Coach Vince Malette. I'd like to thank our Mayor Gerry Lalonde and Bilberry Ward Councilor David Lewis who presented these young men with a Certificate of Appreciation.
The FCA would like to thank three young ladies; Brandy Fahey, Melissa Monette and Laura Stus, who without their help and the countless hours of preparation for the arrival, set-up and smooth running of that days event. A special thank you to the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Police for assigning an officer to the Cup. As expected all went very well and the players were very grateful for the gesture and signed approximately 150 autographs.
The Association will continue to inform you of the changes and updates regarding Planning, Environment, Safety, Parks, Recreation, Culture and other community issues.
We look forward to hearing from you on any topics. We hold our monthly meetings on the 3rd Monday of each month at 8pm with the exceptions of July and August (Summer Holidays). |
