James Joseph Knowles

1. James Joseph Knowles, born September 1799; died 1872. He was the son of 2. Edmond Knowles and 3. Sallie Juana Evans. He married (1) Anna Thomas April 21, 1821 in Georgia. She was the daughter of Lewis Thomas and Phove Holloway.

Children of James Knowles and Anna Thomas are:

i. Philip Edmund Knowles, born 1830; died January 07, 1904; married Mahala Mariah Shanks 1858 in Smith Co., TX.

ii. Jesse Tense Knowles, born 1837; died in died in young manhood.

iii. James Bellah Knowles, born 1834; died in died of a relapse of measles while serving in the Confederate Army; married Kitturah S. Prater October 03, 1860.

iv. Martha Jane Knowles, born 1832; married John H. Knowles August 23, 1854.

v. Sophronia Ann Knowles, born 1840; married Johnson Robbs October 17, 1860.

vi. Matilda C. H. Knowles, born 1845.
