DOG IN THE ROAD
©By Russ
There’s an old dog down the lane
who loves to lie in the middle of the
road, soaking up the mid-day sun.
He doesn't care if you do think you’ve got
somewhere important to go, and won’t
bother to look up when your toot your horn.
He doesn’t have a care in the world,
and is damned sure he isn’t buying into
any ‘hurry up to nowhere fast’ plans of mine.
He’s just another one of those signs
on the road that show me which way to go.
A pair of Red-Tailed Hawks circle lazily
overhead, doing some serious hunting
from way up there, but without all that
tension and strain of way down here.
Another hint supplied to me, suggesting I
might do the same.
Misty is curled up in the shade...she’s
a fast learner...took her no time at all
to catch on.
Tipper’s asleep under the bench, must just
come natural for him.
Jimmy the cat, is under the house where
it’s dark and cool, catching a few winks.
The birds in the house have heads tucked
beneath their wings.
Wonder why I’m so sleepy, and feel a nap
coming on....looks like I’m finally catching on.
