This is a very imformative site on greyhounds, my hats off to you keep up the good work!
I have two greyhounds that I show and compete in Canadian Lurecoursing trials. My hounds do very well at what they were bred for, to run. Sadly most adoption agencies do not promote this sport, or even letting adopted greyhounds off the leash for any r
ason. In the US alone it is estimated that an average of 100 greyhounds A DAY are euthanized that do not make the grade at the track. I consider myself fortunate to live in a country such as Canada that does not allow parti mutual betting on dogs. Hopef
lly adoption agencies will someday realize that what needs to be done is to lobby the government and ban the betting on the greyhounds instead of adding to the problem by adopting out rejected, and or injured animals.
Visit my site and see pictures of greyhounds that were born for a reason other than money and greed. To be loved and cared for no matter what.

I came in search of information about pannus. Skippy, our greyhound/lab mix, was recently diagnosed with it by the family vet and is now on dexamethasone eye drops like Comet! Skippy is also quite the spook like Topaz, and will shy at the strangest thin
s! We have started agility training, and all the exposure to other dogs and nice people is reducing his shyness with other people. Thanks for the info, and your great links to pannus information!

We do greyhound placement through Shamrock Foundation in Louisville, KY. My husband and I have tried fostering 5 times and flunked 5 times. We adopted all 5! Even the vet says not to foster, just go ahead and adopt. I like your site, but it seems that eve

I loved Amber's story. I was brought up with all types of dog, from Cocker Spaniels to Great Pyranees, but I have to say our "Grey" is the most lovable yet. My wife finally has the "lap dog" she wanted; albeit a trifle heavy.

Hi, I', writing from Australia. I love surfing the Internet to read articles on Greyhounds.
In Australia the racing scene is a lot different to America. Greyhounds are
trained in a family environment mainly with only a few large kennels. Our large
kennels would consist of less than 30 greyhounds. I, myself, have 17 Greyhounds
(8 racing and 9 retired), four Italian Greyhounds and 1 Jack Russell Terrier. They
all get on very well.
Thanks for your article - it was very interesting. I personally have
never had a greyhound which suffers from Pannus but I do know of
somebody that does and I will pass the article on to her.
Regards from Australia

Thanks so much for your site--we had to have send our precious (my velcro doggie) Sorrow to the Rainbow Bridge about a month ago and it has taken me this long to be able to get back to the "greyhound pages." We have been greyt parents since 1991. We hav
lost two of our sweeties, Brigade Leader (Buddy) to complications from insulin dependent diabetes and most recently my Sorrow to bone cancer. We have Angel (whom we call Leona Helmsley), King (an Irish greyhound--he didn't care about St. Patrick's Day!)
and B.G. (the Big Guy) formerly Mykiah (sp.) Chuck right now. We love them. We understand Greyhound addiction--we will never be without one.
Good luck to you. I am bookmarking your site and will keep up with your joys, trials, etc. Will e mail you sometime.

Hi.I don't have a comment just a wierd story.
It all began about 2 months ago when I got hooked on wanting a dog.I was annoying my parents about getting a dog(a friend of my own)since my older sister always wanted a dog but never got one was mad.Every day in school I would draw some where on my h
me work a dog(any breed of dog).In art we were making things with clay.My statue looked like one of those egyptian dogs.I didn't have a picture to look off of for what kind of dog I was going to make. But later on I had to change my dog a little because of
my annoying art teacher. My mom took me to the pound and we found what seemed to be the perfect dog had doubts about the dog that looked calm but really wasn't.The stoy starts to take off when we go in to our usual pet store. We get or supplies(with visions
of dogs in our minds/thinking what dog is the perfect pet for me).Out of all the dogs in the pet store/the calmest was a grey hound. It was not annoying any one/not barking or grabbing at things.A spark in my moms head told me she had a friend at work whos
friend knows some one dealing with grey hounds. My step dad was allergic to dander and he got a list off the internet of which dogs would be good for allergy sufferors(grey hounds were on the list). With all the stuff I incountered with grey hounds/it is t
lling me I was ment to have one/and also save it's life from death.

We adopted a beautiful brindle/white w/spots, 2 yr. old a year ago. My husband and I had always wanted a larger dog. We've had two cockers and when we lost one to cancer last year, I told myself I wanted a dog that didn't bark, liked people,an inside dog a
d one with short soft hair. My daughter and I we're watching the animal channel one day and it just so happens a story about ex-racers was on. We we're hooked and I directly went on the internet to fill out adoption papers. The GPA of Calif. was wonderful
We had an interview and in about a month and a half (seemed like forever), we got Mitchell. He is the neetest dog that we've ever had!! A 75lb. love bug. Love your articles!

Sharon, I just finished visiting your website. What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday morning. The stories about Amber and Topaz reminded me so much of our first Grey, Vito and our second Cairo!
Vito, like Amber, was every bit the noble, dignified perfect Greyhound. It was through him that we were able to reach our small, shy, frightened girl, Cairo. She would walk down the street with her head glued to his ribcage. He was her big brother and pro
ector. And like you, we adopted our third Grey, Flyer, as we saw Vito aging. Little did we know that we would lose him
later that year to cancer. The information and contact that this site provides does honor to Amber and Vito's memory.

I adopted two beautiful greyhounds a little over two years ago. They will be 7 yrs. old in January and are a complete joy to me.
It was so funny to read your story because I have a similar one. I had a teacup poodle for 14 years prior to getting my greyhounds and it was quite an adjustment going from a 3 lb. miniature to 65-70 lb. dogs with fierce tails banging away! But, as you
now, I am so glad I made the decision to visit our local association, Greyhound Placement located in Goffstown, NH.
Thank you for making people aware of the rewards of owning greyhounds. Keep up the good work!
