I believe that John Denver's intention was not about wanting to write a best seller, just as he said that he never sat down with the intention to write a hit song. Instead, John simply shares his story, and his feelings about some of the choices he made throughout his life. Yes, there are pieces missing -- it would take a volume of books to reveal the fullness of this man's life -- but what is revealed is the honest feelings of a man on a journey to find himself. Parts of his story may be troubling for some who would choose to place him on a pedestal, and will certainly provide fodder for those who might choose to judge. However, with this book, John shows us once again why so many millions loved him. He reaches into our hearts, and touches our souls. Through the sharing of his story, his thoughts, and his feelings, he reminds us once again how important it is to continually search inside ourselves, to reach for that "Higher Ground", to love one another -- and yes, that we are, each and every one of us, only human, and that flawed and imperfect though we may be..."as different as we are, we're still the same".
