Joseph Wallingford's Will

"In the name of God, Amen, I Joseph Wallingford of Mason County Ken
tucky, Being now old and desiring to dispose of all my property, do by these pres
ents, ordain constitute and appoint the following as my last will and Testament
hereby revoking and annulling all former wills by me made and desire this the
following to be established by the proper Court as my sole and only will.
Item first. To my daughter Sarah wife of Amos Bassett I devise give and be-
queath my negro woman named Minerva now about nineteen years old a
slave for life.
Item Second. To my son Mark Wallingford, the sum of three hundred dollars.
Item Third. To the children of my deceased daughter Sophia who was the wife of
Walter S Chandler, the sum of three hundred dollars.
Item fourth. To the children of my deceased daughter Prudence Ellis wife of Laban
Ellis the sum of Three Hundred dollars.
Item fifth. To my daughter Rachael Applegate wife of Richard Applegate and her
children my negro woman Milly now about seventy six years old and her increase
after my death.
Item sixth, I devise and bequeath to my daughter Harriet Johnson wife of John
Johnson and her children my negro man Slave named Jefferson now about Twenty
eight years old.
Item Seventh. I devise and bequeath to my son Joseph T. Wallingford my negro man
named Lewis now about Twenty years old.
Item Eighth. I devise that after my death my executor hereafter named out of my
money on hand or that he may collect pay all my just debts and funeral expenses and
I further devise and direct that my Executor in a reasonable time after my death sell at public
sale, on a reasonable credit all the balance of my estate Lands and personal property, and he is
hereby authorized to convey said lands to the purchaser or purchasers. And as to such slaves
as I m ay own at my death other than those devised as above, He is also to sell, but said sale
to be made to someone or more o fmy heirs as I do not desire any of them to be sold out of my
family. It is further my will That after my death My executor so soon as may be convenient pay
to my devisees. The money bequeathed to them and deliver to the other children the negroes bequeathed
to each of them and when he shall have sold my lands and collected all moneys due me and sold all the bal-
ance o fmy property I will and direct that the proceeds of all my estate be equally divided among the
foregoingdevisees that is Sarah Bassett and her children one Seventh Mark Wallingford one
Seventh the children of Sophia Chandler one Seventh.
The children of Prudence Ellis one Seventh. Rachael Applegate and her children one Seventh Harriet
Johnson and her children one Seventh and my son Joseph T Wallingsford the remaining one Seventh
Lastly I do by these presents constitute and appoint my son Joseph T Wallingford sole executor
of this my will empowering him to do all acts necessary to carry out this my will and I do by
these presnets and on this Twenty sixth day of November 1850. Ratify and affirm this as my
last will and testament hereby revoking and annulling all former wills whatever. In Testimony
