MARY WALLINGFORD

According to a letter written by Dr O.M. Layton of Fon du Lac, WI on 21 March 21 1936, his grandfather James Layton was born "somewhere" in Maryland March 20, 1783. James' wife was Mary Wallingford, born 4 Dec 1783. James' sister married a Wallingford and had one son, William Wallingford. This was Margaret Layton who married Mark Wallingford, son of Mark Wallingford. James and Mary Layton are buried in the Mill Creek Cemetery in Mason County, Kentucky. Dr Layton's letter does not name the children of James and Mary. However, he states that his father was born 20 September 1807. The marriage records of Mason County show a James Layton who married Mary Breeze on 5 January 1804. If this James is Dr Layton's grandfather, then either Mary Wallingford married a Breeze before she married James Layton, or she was not a Wallingford.
