Will of Elizabeth Clark

Note: Berkeley County was formed on 19 May 1772 from Frederick County, VA

In the Name of God Amen, I Elizabeth Clark of Frederick County Virginia being sick of body though of perfect mind and memory thanks be to God therefore putting (?) to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it appointed for us once to die. I Recommend this as my last will and testament not doubting but to meet the Lord in the day of resurrection.

First, I order that after my decease that my body be buried in a Christian like & decent manner at the discretion of my Executors I ordain and constitute Abraham VanMetre and Sarah Night to be my whole and sole executors to this my last will and testament.

Item, I order that my Funeral expenses be justly paid & to be levied out of my Estate. The remainder of my Estate I give and bequeath in manner & form following--

Imprimus I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Clark my Grand Daughter, my Bed and Furniture and all others my Household goods--

Item, I give to my oldest Daughter Elizabeth Owens one half of my wearing appearel to be equally divided between her and Sarah Night my Daughter and also to Mary Owens Elizabeth Owen's Daughter my Gold Ring--

Item, give to my Grandsons John Wallingsford and Benjamin Wallingsford one Pistol to be levied out of my Estate (e.c.) Benjamin not to Receive his part not untill he arrives at the age of twenty one--

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Nights children twenty eight pounds to be equally divided among them and also I give to my Daughter Sarah Night all the provisions that shall be left in my house after my burial.

I acknowledge this to be my last will and testament as witness my hand this 1st day of April one thousand seven hundred and seventy two.

At a court held in Berkeley County the 18th of August 1772 this last will and testament of Elizabeth Clark deceased was proved by the oath of Phebe Walingsford a witness thereto and ordered to be recorded.
