We entered Troublesome Creek Campground, quaint, 15 Campsites 4 of which looked like walk-in sites. It is so-out-there. The music of water raging gave me a sense of excitement, a sound of nature in action.
The trail crosses two bridges in a short 1/2 mile loop. This nature trail was certainly alive and we felt like we were in a magical forest straight out of a fairy tale book. We started upstream alongside the creek, checking out all the old-growth and Oldenormous cedars and firs. They say the first miners to come to the Skykomish River valley used this creek to get to gold, silver, and copper. The heavy dissolved minerals in the water produced an unusual range of colors; ice blues to deeper blues, greens, browns, and of course, just crystal clear. The water had such power, especially where the white water rapids breaks over the water-scoured bedrock. We came across the upper bridge, our half point. In awe at its beauty, we rested near the water and had our "Rugrat" gummies.
On the way back, we went downstream, and crossed over the second bridge, leading us back to our starting point. Of course, at this point, the girls wanted more, so we ventured off to a safe creek bed and picnic site for some water play. Even little Aja, at 14 months old, had her share of walking along the water for the first time and dropping stones, amused at each little splash she made. I think this particular hike contributed to a major part of the girls' rock collection!
This little expedition is excellent for smaller children and a wonderful place to camp. Just ask the girls... this is one they will remember, and one that will motivate them to go for more (hikes)!
