Our Weekend
Adventure
Twin Falls
Ollalie State Park, Washington
This dayhike took us up 400 feet through a magnificent old-growth
forest that leads to a close up view of Twin Falls. The girls loved everything
about this hike (except for the occassional comments of hunger through
300 feet of uphill switchbacks):
the moss covered logs, the canopy of enormous cedar and fir
trees (some 700 years old), the panoramic view at waterfall
level, and the wonderful wildflowers in full bloom. This hike took us
2 1/2 hours to hike 4 miles roundtrip. Ariana, who just turned three
in April, did so well, I am proud to say! We did a lot of resting
and caterpillar watching.
We had our lunch at the platform overlooking the spectacular falls.
The water force was tremendous, since this Winter's snow had melted
rather quickly during our last week of a "heat wave" in
Northwestern Washington. The waterfall's spray felt good on our faces
after the climb. Of course, the girls became fearful of falling,
afterall, the platform was right on the cliff's edge.
After munching and quenching, listening to the hard falling waters,
we ventured back downhill
to the trail head, where we played in a small sandy cove near
the river's edge.
