Our Weekend Adventure

Whistle Lake

This was it, the perfect day for a hike. High clouds and sun... the kind of day I've been waiting for all Summer. It has rained here but maybe three or four days so far since the girls have been out of school (mid July)!

We drove up highway 5 towards Mount Vernon and headed West towards the city of Anacortez, a city with views of the San Juan Islands. It was quite amazing to find such a forest almost right in town.

Our hike took us about 3/4 mile to Whistle Lake, a beautiful clear lake, odd shaped, and perfect for swimming. At a distance across the lake we spotted a high rock cliff where teenagers were jumping off the top's edge, plunging into the deep lake. We found a little pebble beach area where the girls laughed and splashed after having a quick bite of lunch.

It was a nice afternoon hike, and girls wanted more but Mom here was way too tired to take the complete lakeside trail!
