We drove up highway 5 towards Mount Vernon and headed West towards the city of Anacortez, a city with views of the San Juan Islands. It was quite amazing to find such a forest almost right in town.
Our hike took us about 3/4 mile to Whistle Lake, a beautiful clear lake, odd shaped, and perfect for swimming. At a distance across the lake we spotted a high rock cliff where teenagers were jumping off the top's edge, plunging into the deep lake. We found a little pebble beach area where the girls laughed and splashed after having a quick bite of lunch.
It was a nice afternoon hike, and girls wanted more but Mom here was way too tired to take the complete lakeside trail!
