Funeral services were held at the Pangburn Batist church Tuesday at 2 p. m. for Ruben Franklin Altom, age 88, who died at the Heber Springs hospital Sunday (March 10, 1963).
He was a member of the McJester Baptist church and was for many years a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Mr. Altom had been a resident of the county since the age of two. He was born in Dyer county, Tenn., Dec. 28, 1874, the son of George and Lucy Wooley Altom, an early family of Cleburne county. He was a retired farmer.
During his long residency here Mr. Altom had formed a wide cirle of friendships. He enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him for his fine character, his pleasing personal qualities, and his high ideals.
Survivors are a son, Homer Altom of Pangburn; four daughters, Mrs Lucy Sample of Senath, Mo., Mrs. Bertha House of Mablevale, and Mrs. Rena Tatum and Mrs. Ada Thomas, both of St. Louis; a half-sister, Mrs. Berta Young of Benton Harbor, Mich., and 14 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Rev. W. B. O'Neal and the Rev. Mr. Hill officiated at the final rites. Interment was in the Henderson cemetery by Olmstead funeral service.

Mrs. Reuben Frankin Altom, 85, one of the pioneer citizens of the county who was a charter-member of the Floral Baptist church died at the family home near Pangburn Dec 23, 1956.
She and her husband had observed their 59th wedding anniversary on the day preceding her passing.
The former Miss Ella Vileda DeLoach, Mrs. Altom was born at Mongomery, Ala., Oct.8, 1871. Her parents were Mark and Jane DeLoach a prominent early family of Floral, who moved to that community when Mrs. Altom was five years old.
Mr. and Mrs. Altom were married at Floral, Dec. 22, 1897, to which union were born six children, five of who survive. A son, Mark, having died in infancy. They resided at Floral until moving to Pangburn 30 years ago.
Mrs. Altom's life was rich in service to her church, her family and her friends, and to them she left the heritage of a beautiful christian life.
Besides her husband, other survivors are a son, Homer, of Pangburn; four daughters, Mrs. Lucy Samples of Senath, Mo., Mrs. Bertha House of Mablevale, Mrs. Ren Tatum and Mrs. Ada Thomas, both of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Pangburn Baptist church Christmas Eve Day with the Rev. W. B. O'Neal, for many years her pastor, officiating.
Interment was in the Henderson cemetery at Pangburn with arrangements by the Olmstead funeral home.
